We-Shred assists medical/dental clinics and health care organizations in West Virginia to comply with the privacy standards established in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). HIPAA PRIVACY DEADLINE PASSES PROVISIONS WITHIN HIPAA

HIPAA is designed to establish national standards for the secure and efficient transmission of patient information. April 14, 2003 is the deadline for compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule, which mandates all health care providers have privacy standards in place to prevent the inappropriate use or disclosure of protected health information. Failure to comply could result in criminal and or civil penalties. Privacy is defined as having policies and procedures in place to control who has access to protected health information.
